A leather jacket is often a long jacket-length garment, usually worn over other articles of clothing or other item of clothing, which is made entirely out of the hide of various animals, and generally dyed black. The classic leather material used to make these jackets is typically tanned black, but there are a wide variety of colors available as well. These jackets were originally used by bikers and members of motorcycle clubs because they provided a kind of inbuilt warmth which was absent from the clothing of the common person. However, with the passing years, the use of leather jackets has become somewhat misplaced due to the more casual look of many people nowadays. Leather jackets are now considered fashionable for many people who have the inclination to wear them, although they are still quite uncomfortable and not particularly warm.
